4AM Productions’ ‘Ate’ included among 6 finalists out of 32 entries at 39th CMMA
After a total of 32 entries from different universities were submitted, independent production team 4AM Productions was included as one of the six finalists under the Student Short Film category for their entry “Ate” at the 39th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA), held on October 25 at the Star Theater, Star City, Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex, Pasay City.
The 4AM Productions team is comprised of a group of fourth year AB Communication students from DLSU-D.
”Ate” Director Arsenio Rafael Bulaong explained that their film is, “A fictional drama about two sisters in an extraordinary situation that helps them realize their own pains and desires, due to their experiences and the obstacles they faced, both of them realize that they are each other’s only hope.”
The film aims to impart on the audience the value of family ties and strength of sibling relationships.
Regarding how he felt after the film was nominated in the 39th CMMA, Bulaong said, “We were so surprised to be chosen from 32 other student short films because we didn’t even think we would make the deadline at first. CMMA is such a prestigious body and to be nominated makes us believe more in our potential to create films which our audience can learn from and that can rival other schools.”
Bulaong added that 4AM Productions and Ate were created as a class project under the subject Radio and Television Production in academic year 2016-2017.
“The people behind ‘Ate’ were my classmates from RTV with our professor Ma’am (Rosanni) Annie Sarile,” Bulaong mentioned.
Colegio De San Juan De Letran’s film “Nakauwi Na” was awarded as the winner for the Student Short Film Category whereas Far Eastern University–Institute of Technology’s 3D film entry “Jonas” received a special citation.
The theme for this year’s CMMA is based on the Social Communication Day message of Pope Francis––“Fear not, for I am with you (Isaiah 43:5): Communicating hope and trust in our time.”
