‘Cavite’s groundwater available until 2018 only’ -ERMaC

Due to the effects of climate change, the availability of groundwater resources in Cavite is expected to last until 2018 only, Environmental Resource Management Center (ERMaC) Director Marlon Pareja said during the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Climate Change Forum held at Tanghalang Julian Felipe on February 18.

Studies conducted by the Cavite Provincial Government found that the water resources in upland areas of Cavite, such as Dasmariñas and Silang, would decrease by the end of 2018.

According to Pareja, climate change is among the pressing issues of different ASEAN countries since it can affect human health, agriculture, biodiversity, and food security.

 

Students from different colleges participate in the evaluation on the amount of waste they consume per day.

He furthered that students can contribute in mitigating the effects of climate change in the environment by planting more trees and conserving the earth’s resources.

“Kung gaano karami ang nire-release mong carbon, ganoon din dapat ang binabalik mo sa environment. All of us are contributors to climate change [because] the more we utilize earth’s resources, the higher our carbon footprint.”

Meanwhile, a total of 150 students from the College of Business Administration and Accountancy, College of Science and Computer Studies, College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, and College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology attended the ASEAN Climate Change Forum, which was organized by the Institutional Events Management Committee.
