SENTRO USC auditorial candidate withdraws candidacy
Due to an allegedly unjustified student election, the SENTRO La Salle political party’s University Student Council (USC) auditorial candidate Aldred Madlangbayan officially announced his withdrawal of candidacy during the Kapihan at Ugnayan: A Dialogue for Student Elections at Museo Complex on March 30.
“Of course, I am in all well. (sic) Good luck, SINAG political party. I hope you win the vote of confidence,” Madlangbayan said in his closing statement.
Since only SINAG political party candidates will run for USC officer positions, the candidates shall be subject to the vote of confidence before being proclaimed as winners.
Based on the 2016 Amended Student Election Code (E-code) of DLSU-D in Article IX, Section 14, the vote of confidence shall vary depending on the voters’ population in a college or in the whole University.
However, if the University fails to elect any member of the USC due to unachieved vote of confidence, the Office of Student Services Dean, Student Development and Activities Office Director, outgoing USC officers, and legislative board shall convene to resolve the said issue, as per the E-code.
Meanwhile, SENTRO Secretary-General Meriel Faye Acaba believes that achieving the vote of confidence would be difficult for the SINAG political party since the SENTRO La Salle dominated the previous student elections of academic year (AY) 2014-2015.
“Even sa College of Business Administration and Accountancy last year, may isang candidate under SINAG political party na nakakuha ng 300 votes tapos ‘yung isang candidate under SENTRO La Salle, nakakuha naman ng 900 votes. Sa College of Liberal Arts and Communication, 170 votes‘yung nakuha ng isang candidate sa kabila, sa amin naman, approximately more than 300 votes. Imagine, dalawang partido na ‘yun tapos ganoon lang karami?” Acaba furthered.
Student Commission on Elections (SCE) Chairperson Aaron Bryan Lopez added that they would allow Madlangbayan to withdraw his candidacy as it is his personal intent to no longer run for AY 2015-2016 University Student Elections.
