DLSU-D dormitory opens slots for incoming SHS students
Due to the expected decrease of college student enrollees next academic year (AY) 2016-2017, the DLSU-D Student Dormitory will start accommodating dormers from both college and Senior High School (SHS) students this incoming school year.
“Although mayroong first year college na mag–e-enroll [next AY], kaunti na lang sila [due to K to 12 program implementation]. Isang factor din kung bakit kami tumanggap ng SHS dormers ay para mapuno ‘yung rooms na hindi mafi-fill next AY. Mas marami rin kasing nag-inquire ng dormitory from SHS [kaysa college],” Student Dormitory Head Elizabeth Fernandez said.
Before finally opening dormitory slots for SHS students, Fernandez said the DLSU-D Student Dormitory staff initially consulted with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administrative Services, Student Wellness Center, and Registrar’s Office.
After conferring with the said offices, the DLSU-D Student Dormitory decided to separate both SHS and college student dormers’ rooms due to possible discomfort among the dormers caused by year level differences.
“Kasi kung mag-isa lang ‘yung high school na ang kasama ay puro college [sa iisang room], sa observation ko, iba ‘yung study habits ng dalawa [SHS and college students]. Sabi [kasi] ng administrators, baka ma-culture shock ang SHS dormers. Pero kung magkadugo naman o magkapatid ‘yung magdo-dorm, okay lang na pagsamahin sa iisang room,” Fernandez said.
She mentioned they will assign female SHS students to the twelve rooms of Waling-waling building’s entire fourth floor, while the male SHS students will occupy the five out of eight rooms of the Kamagong building.
“Tatlong [male] students ang magshe-share sa isang room … although ‘yong ibang rooms [ay] may mixed [college and SHS students],” Fernandez said.
She clarifies the dormitory fee for both college and SHS students will be P3,740 and P4,675 per student in a four-dormer and five-dormer room, respectively.
“Exclusive pa ang electricity fee diyan pero ‘yung bayad for water bill ay libre. Mas preferred [sana] namin na four in a room, kaso mayroon ding parents na ‘di kaya ang dormitory fee, so nag-open pa rin kami ng five in a room,” she said.
As of press time, 54 SHS students have already reserved a slot. Fernandez said they may be able to accommodate up to 70 students as long as there are available slots in the dormitory.
