CEATSC plays films, videoke for CEAT students in waiting areas during manual enrollment

The College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology Student Council (CEATSC) 2016-2017 officers decided to play films and videoke inside the air-conditioned classrooms of CTH building which served as the waiting area to “entertain” students in queue during the CEAT manual enrollment on January 19 and 20.

The manual enrollment was implemented on December 2016 by the CEAT administration to lessen online enrollment issues such as rivalry of slots between regular and irregular students, losing petitioned subjects, and dropping subjects after knowing the professors assigned, according to CEATSC 2016-2017 Public Relations Officer Christian Cabatay.

In coordination with their decision, the CEATSC initiated to aid the students during their manual enrollment with volunteers participating in the CEAT BES (Brisky Enrollment Support) Help Desk.

CEAT students utilize the Bes Help Desk comprised of volunteers and 30 computers inside the CTH classroom.

Since manual enrollment is a longer process than the usual online enrollment, Cabatay said the CEATSC used the CTH building’s classrooms to serve as waiting areas for the students who have enrollment-related concerns.

Different films such as Titanic and One More Chance and videoke with various songs were played inside the said classrooms where students who were waiting could watch and sing.

“Of course, mahaba pila natin so we (CEATSC) have to somehow entertain them (CEAT students) kasi nga matagal talaga yong process,” Cabatay said.

Help Desk

The CEAT BES (Brisky Enrollment Support) Help Desk is comprised of CEAT student volunteers who aim to personally assist the students undergoing manual and online enrollment issues which started on December 2016.

“Somehow, kahit sa other colleges may flaws din [‘yong enrollment process and student portal] so ‘yong ibang [students na] nagkaka-problema, lalapit lang sila sa CEAT BES Help Desk natin and pipila lamang sila sa waiting list natin,” Cabatay added.

Meanwhile, approximately 30 computers with 39 coders were also used to help the CEAT students in adding and dropping subjects as well as managing their own slots for the second semester.

“With the help of the CEAT laboratory, na-install-an siya (30 computers) ng software from the Registrar’s Office and our CEAT admin is generous enough for us to be able to use these classrooms for free,” Cabatay furthered.

As of press time, more than 2,000 out of 3,000 CEAT students have already registered and paid during the manual enrollment.

Despite encountering some issues regarding enrollment such as students suddenly losing their reserved slots, Cabatay said the CEAT BES Help Desk still managed to resolve the said problems.
