Popcorn III: Back to the Future
Giving every person in the audience the feels from dusk till dawn, a classic concert was brought to stage by the Lasallian Pop Band (LPB) as they celebrated their 15th anniversary yesterday, May 10, at the University Grandstand with the theme Back to the Future.
Ready to pop
The concept of the entire show revolves around the unending trend of the old LPB’s playlist being on rewind for the current tick of the show. “From the word ‘Back to the future,’ lahat ng past lineups ng alumni namin hanggang present ipe-perform namin dito, so parang tribute ‘to sa Lasallian Pop Band and sa past batches,” LPB’s EVP for Internal Affairs, Christel Lanzuela said. All the selected songs were once played from their previous performances, making the LPB what it is today—an unshakable band with versatile talents.
Unlike their previous concerts having guest performers, the main thing that made Popcorn III different was the lineup of the performers. “‘Yong sa performers namin kasi last concert, mostly guest performers unlike ngayon na puro alumni and members ‘yong mga tumugtog,” Lanzuela mentioned. The venue was also a big factor as to why their supposedly guest Lasallian Pointes ‘N’ Flexes didn’t have the chance to perform due to stage difficulties.
As problems are inevitable, hardships can get in the way of planning. Lanzuela pointed out the lack of experience of their new members in adjusting to the big event they held. So far, it was the number of paperwork they needed to process and the plans that didn’t turn out well as planned that became the major downside of their event preparation. Despite all the headaches and stress in grounding for the show, the band was still able to pull things off just as they hoped they would.
Open house music jam
As the heat of the sun fades and the venue gets cooler, the bleachers from the lower grounds of Grandstand slowly and steadily filled with Lasallian students, friends, families, and alumni, who came all the way to support the band’s concert.
All five set lines were comprised of songs from medley to rock and pop to alternative. Carried out by 19 active members composed of vocalists and instrumentalists in addition to alumni, the whole open area was shook with the solid execution of the band—from the beat of the drums, strumming of the guitar, and notes of the keyboard.
LPB also invited Bantayog, the famous local band here in Cavite. The band showcased unique taste of songs as they sang their own compositions, an undeniably great music talent that inspired everyone in the concert. The proceeds of the show will go directly to the funds of Lasallian scholars, who are the main beneficiary of the event.
A moving end to the feel-good night vibes, all the active members of LPB gathered along the stage to pour all their hearts out and let their song reach the hearts of the audience.
Born to perform
It was not just the acoustic planning of the event but LPB who were full of energy in the vast live outdoor area, with every song breaking through with considerable clarity.
More than just performing on stage and carrying out a concert of their own, the individual members of the LPB, especially the new members, really stepped out and conquered the stage like they had been doing so all their lives. In addition to the jam-packed set of performers were the veterans and masters of performances—the alumni. It was the pride of DLSU-D to witness the harnessed talents of the old band members as they proved that they’re really the ates and kuyas of the band. With their showcase of undying spirit to perform, all the band members including the audience were set ablaze during the night.
