Admin modifies policy on transaction fee

The administration modified the transaction fee policy wherein the second and third transactions made prior to the first day of classes will be free of charge starting academic year (AY) 2017-2018, as per Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administrative Services (VCFAS) Mary May Eulogio.

However, second and third transactions done after the first day of class will be charged. Meanwhile first transactions will remain as they currently are, free of charge regardless of when they are transacted.

According to Eulogio, the removal of transaction fee is a collegial agreement agreed and arrived upon at the negotiation panel of the multisectoral committee.

She added that the multisectoral committee had a “lengthy discussion” due to the students claiming that the transaction fee “penalizes” them for errors caused by the enrollment system.

She furthered, “Sinasabi nila na minsan daw ‘yong supposed to be subjects na ie-enroll nila as a block/section, mayroong instances [na] supposed to be ay reserved siya for the block ay parang ‘pag dating ng  time of enrollment ay nauubusan sila ng slot ng irregulars.”

Eulogio added that the transaction fee serves as a discouragement for students to go through transactions to change their class schedules because of professors they do not wish to have.

Charge

As to how much the transaction fee will be after modifying the policy, Eulogio said that it will remain the same as in the previous AYs.

“25 pesos pa rin for the second and third transaction pero as long as it is transacted when classes are ongoing,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the charge for the fourth transaction will also remain the same at P300 whether the transaction is done before the start of classes or when classes are already ongoing.

Regarding the implementation of the modified policy, Eulogio stated, “If there is a need to address concerns that may have been encountered in the implementation of the modified policy, then it will be subjected to review before the next season of negotiation again. Ang sa ‘kin lang is since napagbigyan na tanggalin ‘yong fee ay ‘wag naman sanang ma-abuse ng students.”

Furthermore, Eulogio said that the remaining concerns on enrollment system shall be handled at the level of the Office of the University Registrar and Information and Communication Technology Center.
