Charli XCX’s Boys: The ultimate crush anthem
Charli XCX’s music video for her new single Boys dropped last week—among other things—and we’re still reeling.
The song itself is a banger, a pop-retro vibe with old-school video game pings every now and then. Directed by Charli XCX and Sarah McColgan, the video catapulted a storm of smitten girls—and plenty of boys at that—with this buffet of more than fifty boys donning millennial pink to feast on. The puppies help too.
Though the boys aren’t even doing anything overtly sensual, the attraction isn’t affected any less. If anything, the completely random, mundane, and almost childlike activities make the video more endearing, more candid—and a lot more addictive. Charli XCX puts it best herself, “The whole idea behind my video was to avert the male gaze.” And boy, has it ever.
