DLSU-D cager Cantimbuhan, former Patriots reach PBA – BGSM 3×3 Nat’ls

Representing Team Cavite, cager John Cantimbuhan and former Patriots Clifford Castro, Jeoffrey Acain, and Jappy Villadarez came short of a win to snatch third round spot in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (BGSM) 3 x 3 National Championships held at SM Megamall yesterday, September 1.

Team Cavite’s campaign contained a barn burner but a disheartening second round.

As team Cavite held a 14-11 driver’s seat, the giants of Team CamSur climbed the impeccable ladder to force a first-to-make-two-points overtime, 15-15. The eventual finals contender destroyed the hopes of Cavite and iced the game with a penalty free throw in the overtime period, 15-17.

However, their loss wasn’t grieved, as the quartet worked their talents on the regionals qualifiers before their PBA – BGSM 3 on 3 Nationals Championship participation.

The event also featured seven-footer and PBA’s Ginebra San Miguel’s starting center, Greg Slaughter.

The GSM contest, with a goal of “giving young and promising athletes a chance to be one step closer to their dreams and be like their basketball idols” boasted a grand prize of P15,000.

The tourney also held 16 teams from all over the country to rumble for the prize and honor of their respective provinces in the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) 3×3 format.

From 16 teams, there are only two remaining teams in Team La Union and CamSur that will battle it out in the Smart Araneta Coliseum tomorrow, September 3, before the awaited Manila Clasico.
