Registrar conducts online enrollment dry run to test system, students react
The Office of the University Registrar (OUR), together with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Academic Services (VCFAS), conducted a dry run for the Online Enrollment (OnE) next semester on December 8 and 9.
OUR Office Associate Naranja Romasoc explained that there were no changes in the dry run process from the previous online enrollment procedures already in place. However, they decided to include students of graduate programs.
According to Romasoc, the dry run was conducted to test for any potential problems regarding the connection and OnE system before the actual enrollment procedure.
The students were advised to report to the OUR regarding the concerns that they may have encountered.
After the dry run procedure, the OnE will be “reset” to prepare for the actual enrollment of academic year 2017-2018’s second semester.
Students react
Upon conducting the dry run, DLSU-D student “Paulo” said, “May mga ilang subjects na hindi lumabas sa subjects offered sa amin ‘nong dry run. Supposedly kasi may lalabas na elective subjects na related sa course track namin for next sem, kaso nung dry run walang lumabas. Sana walang error na ganito sa darating na actual enrollment, kasi hassle umulet ng transaction ‘pag nagkataon.”
On the same matter, DLSU-D student “Christine” commented, “Walang lumabas na subjects sa pre-reg, dumiretso ako sa reg [at] nag-search ako ng subjects, may mga lumabas naman kaso nung pinindot ko na ‘yung subject para i-add, hindi ma-add, actually kinakabahan nga ako, pano kung ‘ganun mangyare sa enrollment? Yung ‘di ako maka-add.”
Addressing the mishap that occurred with the OnE process during the second semester of academic year 2016-2017, Romasoc said that the concern “lies” with the Information Communication Technology Center (ICTC).
“May test kasi na ginawa ‘yong ICTC… nagkaroon ng technical problem ‘don sa servers at sa firewall,” Romasoc added.
COR
Meanwhile, to address the students’ “rampant” use of the Certificate of Registration (COR) in place of ID’s to enter the school premises, the Student Welfare and Formation Office (SWAFO) has coordinated with the OUR to discuss a new policy on the distribution of COR.
As per the University Registrar Paulino Gatpandan, the distribution of one official COR per student through their respective class advisors will be implemented next semester. This is to reduce the amount of students printing CORs online.
“After ng period ng [online] enrollment, after mag-add and drop ng subjects, saka pa lang magpi-print ‘yong Registrar ng final na COR at sila [class advisors] ‘yong magbibigay sa mga estudyante,” Romasoc said.
