CBAASC exhibit raises awareness on Lumads, conducts donation drive

To raise awareness and give attention to the minority groups in need of the most love and aid this February, the College of Business Administration, and Accountancy Student Council (CBAASC) showcased an exhibit highlighting the Lumads to raise awareness on the current situation of the indigenous community through artworks and photography contributed by various artists. The exhibit will run from February 12 to 15 at the CBAA lobby.

The CBAASC also calls for donations as they aim to “spread the love” to Lumad communities this month of February.

CBAASC 2016-2017 President Shiela Catanghal shares CBAASC’s aims to “redefine” how the love month is celebrated with the exhibit and donation drive for Lumads,“Parang ide-define namin kung paano i-celebrate ‘yong love month, tapos since mainit ‘yong usapin about Lumads that time, naisip namin na sila ‘yong gawing beneficiary ng drive,” she said.

The CBAASC will partner with iEmergence Inc., a non-profit organization for indigenous communities, in delivering the donations directly to the Lumad communities.

In line with this, the CBAASC shall accept donations of any kind—money or goods—which can be dropped off at the CBAASC office until February 15.

In order to further educate the students on the purpose of the donation drive and the current situation of the Lumads, the CBAASC will also conduct a room-to-room visit for College of Business Administration and Accountancy students.

Idi-discuss namin kung ano ‘yong current situation ng Lumads, and ano ba sila. Kasi minsan ‘di nila (students) alam [kung] bakit kami magco-conduct ng donation drive for Lumads,” Catanghal said.

Recently, the Lasallian Community Development Center raised a call for donations for Mayon Volcano evacuees. Catanghal invites everyone to consider helping both donation drives.

She shared her sentiments on getting the bigger picture on the current issues in the country, especially those from the minority.

Kasi saan ba nagsisimula ‘yong tinatawag nating nation-building? ‘Di ba ‘don sa grassroots ng bansa natin. Kung ‘di natin papangalagaan or ‘di natin bibigyan pansin ‘yong mga komunidad na kagaya nila, papaanong mas uunlad ‘yong bansa?” Catanghal added.
