West Ave temporarily closed to vehicles starting March 5
The General Services Office (GSO) ordered the temporary closing of West Avenue located in the West Campus for all types of vehicles as a safety precaution due to the construction of the new College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) building, as per the memo signed by GSO Director Edwin Bunag. This order will take full effect on Monday, March 5, until the construction’s completion.
As an alternative for the road closing, Acacia Avenue and the road connecting Parents Organization La Salle Cavite (POLCA) to Gregoria Montoya Hall (GMH, also known as the admin building) will be opened for a two-way traffic scheme.
As such, parking of vehicles along Acacia Avenue will be strictly prohibited in order ensure a continuous flow of traffic.
Meanwhile, pedestrians walking from East Campus to West Campus and vice versa will be provided designated pathways along West Avenue.
In an article published in The HERALDO FILIPINO Volume 32 Issue 2, CEAT Dean Engr. Jose Rizaldy De Armas said that the college aims to have the new CEAT building fully operational by academic year 2018-2019 upon receiving approval from the administration to begin construction.
In February 2012, the former CEAT building standing opposite GMH was vacated after finding structural defects. However, it was only in April 25, 2016 that the building underwent a “controlled” demolition, as confirmed by Buildings and Facilities Maintenance Office Director Arch. Dennis Pontanilla in The HERALDO FILIPINO Volume 30 Issue 4.
The HERALDO FILIPINO is yet to reach the administration about further details of the CEAT building construction.
