CEAT Stallions reclaim Street Dance throne
The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) Stallions reclaimed the championship title in this year’s Hip Hop Street Dance Competition that took place at Ugnayang La Salle (ULS) on March 14. With their Beyonce-themed choreography, the group took back their top spot after placing 6th in the competition in 2017 following their championship title in 2016.
The College of Science and Computer Studies (CSCS) Flaming Aces landed in second place with their Wakanda (Black Panther) inspired theme, while last year’s champions, the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) Sparks, marched the band into the third spot with their drumline choreography.
CEAT Stallion Vienne Aaron Belen said that their eagerness to bounce back from last year’s rank motivated them to win the crown, also adding, “Isang factor din [is] we have a new coach from a Manila-based dance team na si Jimloyd Tambot. He let us na mag–isip what concept and klase ng atake we want to happen this year.”
Belen also shared that it was their passion to perform their Beyonce piece that drove them to be champions.
“Parang we pushed ourselves not only to memorize the choreography, music, and other elements but [also] to put ourselves into the routine not only as a dancer [but also] as a performer,” Belen said.
Stealing the spotlight, Raya Vega of the CSCS Flaming Aces and John Simon of the CTHM Sparks bagged the titles of Best Female Dancer and Best Male Dancer, respectively. Hailing from the reigning team of this year’s competition, Angel De Luna also of the CEAT Stallions scored the Solo Battle Performance Award.
Meanwhile, Mutya ng Private Schools Athletic Assocation (PRISAA) champion Sabrina Espinas was awarded as Best Muse.
Despite not seizing first place, CSCS and CTHM topped the other colleges’ outfits as they received the Best in Costume and Best in Jersey Award, respectively. Cheering proudly and loudly for their college, COED seized the Best in Bleachers Award.
Fourth place was given to the College of Business and Accountancy (CBAA) Achievers. In no particular order, the College of Criminal Justice and Education (CCJE) Falcons, the College of Education (CoEd) Sharks, and the College of Liberal Arts and Communication (CLAC) Siklab placed in the bottom three.
