COM alumni to represent DLSU-D in COMASS2018, launches GoGetFunding
AB Communication alumni Toni Chua, Karmela Gaviola, and Christian Mikas Alcantara launched a GoGetFunding account open for donations from Lasallians to gather funds as they are to present their thesis in the International Conference on Communication, Mass Media & Society (COMASS) 2018 in Indonesia this July 19 to 20.
Their thesis titled “Sa Tahanan: A Case Study on the Communication Strategies Used to Maintain Relationships Between Selected Filipino Families and their Relatives Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease” qualified the Scientific Committee of COMASS 2018.
“First, there was the application through online submission of our abstract to the Scientific Committee of (COMASS 2018) then came the review of the panel,” Chua explained. “It took them days to get back to us and to finally confirm our acceptance through e-mail.” Due to registration fees, alongside accommodation, food, and transportation costs, the team resorted to only bringing one representative to the conference.
“Our college department (Communication and Journalism Department)’s monetary support was really the one step closer in proceeding with this conference,” Chua mentioned.
As preparation for the conference, the team visited the family participants to give each a copy of the research as “token of appreciation,” adding that the families were the main reason they wanted to present their research outside the university.
Gaviola confirmed that the GoGetFunding account will be further used for the publication of the thesis.
