VCFAS addresses electricity failure
Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administrative Services (VCFAS) Deodoro Abiog addressed the electricity failure in the East campus, which affected various buildings in the area such as the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) building, Julian Felipe Hall (JFH), Paulo Campos Hall (PCH), Hotel Rafael (HR), and the Information and Communications Technology Center (ICTC).
“Initially, yesterday, at around 6 o’clock [in the evening], the power went back… But, there was a shut down again this morning,” Abiog said.
Abiog mentioned that the University has already contacted consultants and technical experts to assess the malfunction of Substation 1, which covers the buildings in the East campus.
With the ICTC being the main source for internet and telecommunications lines, the building was provided with a generator, as per the Buildings and Facilities Management Office (BFMO) Director Arch. Dennis Pontanilla.
On the other hand, Vice Chancellor for Academics and Research (VCAR) Marco Saez released a memo addressing the East campus college deans, leaving them the decision whether classrooms are “conducive for learning” despite the loss of electricity.
As of press time, a concrete date is yet to be released as to when the East campus substation will be fixed, which will depend on the evaluation of the experts and the availability of the affected parts, as per Abiog.
