SDAO launches Student Activity Portal

The Student Development and Activities Office (SDAO) launched the Student Activity Portal today, July 25, with the aim to minimize paper trails and to simplify the student activity proposal submission process, according to Student Activities Office Coordinator Ruel Elias.

“This time we tried to change to something technological-based powered by the [DLSU-D] portal … when students are going to submit their activity proposal, all they need to do is to accomplish or supply the information that are being asked in the system (Student Activity Portal),” he said, in comparison to the manual system previously utilized.

Having been planned since academic year (AY) 2012-2013, the Information and Communications Technological Center (ICTC) started working on the portal last AY due to other priority projects, and finished in time for the next AY 2019-2020.

More convenient

With the new portal easily accessible online, advisers or administrators who are on official leave or business may able to check or approve event proposals despite their physical absence in the University, Elias said.

“Depending on the nature of the organization, the adviser, department chair, associate dean, college dean, and of course, the Student Activities Office, the SDAO, and the OSS (Office of Student Services) have been given the access [to the portal] to check the proposal.”

On the other hand, students planning events will be able to check availability of venues without needing verification from the SDAO.

Moreover, the SAO coordinator stated that the SDAO will be gradually transitioning with other papers to be included in the online system. As such, other events like fundraising and outreach events, which require approval from the University Advancement Office and the Lasallian Community Development Center, respectively, also need to be linked to the online activity portal.

Aside from submission of event proposals through the portal, accomplishment reports may be submitted to SDAO through e-mail, which no longer requires submission of hard copies.

As of press time, following the student orientation last July 23, there is yet a definite date for faculty and administrators orientation of the Student Activity Portal due to the unavailability of ICTC personnel.
