DLSU-D’s CPA Licensure Exam passing rate drops to 29.27%, lowest in years
DLSU-D achieved a passing rate of 29.27 percent in the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Exam (CPALE) held in October 2019, which is lower in comparison to previous academic years, averaging 87.73 percent in the past five years.
While, there has also been a significant decline on the national passing rate of CPALE, with 14.32 percent this year in stark contrast with the result of 25.18 percent last year.
Based on Professional Regulation Commission’s data, lone top-performing school University of the Philippines (UP) – Diliman has the highest passing rate with 84.21 percent, which also shows a drop of 10.31 percent compared to 94.52 percent passing rate in October 2018.
JPIA addresses CPALE results
DLSU-D Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) President Frances Gervacio linked the drop with the Board of Accountants (BOA) who formulates the accounting examination, addressing inconsistency between subject coverages and examination content starting with CPALE May 2019.
“The BOA has to be consistent with regards to their nire-release na topics so that hindi masu-surprise ‘yong board takers on the content of the exam,” she said.
Gervacio also added that the BOA should consider the opinions and concerns of the students and professionals regarding the CPALE.
“It is a national problem that we have to solve together,” the JPIA president stated, expressing that the University, and its students, should prepare and work harder, as everyone is affected by the results of CPALE.
Gervacio mentioned, as per Accountancy Department (ACD) Chair Eden Cabrera, that the new curriculum is already structured in preparation for the board exam, however, the department is already taking action on possible changes for the following batches of the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy program.
As of press time, The HERALDO FILIPINO has tried to reach the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) Dean Mary Felidora Amparo, however, she stated that they will be releasing a statement over the issue in November.
