University General Assembly merges with KTS celebration
The University Student Council (USC) 2015-2016 and Council of Student Organizations (CSO) collaborated for a combined celebration of the University General Assembly and the Kantahan, Tugtugan, Sayawan (KTS) at the Ugnayang La Salle on October 7 as a way to reduce their expenses and to improve profitability.
According to CSO Vice President Louvebell Komatsu, the purpose of their event is similar to USC’s intended outputs, which is to serve as a fundraiser and give the students a break from school-related activities.
She explained, “Ang disadvantage nga lang [ng pagsasama ng KTS at University General Assembly] ay maiisip ng mga estudyante na [bakit] may bayad. Pero sa tingin ko naman maiintindihan nila ‘yun kasi alam naman nila ang KTS, may bayad at fundraising talaga siya.”

For the past academic years (AYs), the USC and CSO separately conducted the University General Assembly and KTS, respectively.
Previously, students can attend the said general assembly for free, while those who wanted to watch KTS needed to pay for tickets.
Komatsu added that combining these two events this AY would determine whether or not CSO will continue to collaborate with USC in organizing the said events for the succeeding AYs.
She furthered that 70 percent of the accumulated funds from the two combined events will be given to the beneficiaries of One La Salle Scholarship and Bahay Pag-asa.
Meanwhile, USC Public Relations Officer (PRO) External Cesar Gayo said that 30 percent will be allocated as financial support for the DLSU-D Stallions, a group of Mechanical and Computer Engineering students who competed in the annual student innovation competition Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2015 on February 26 to March 1.
He clarified that their collaboration with CSO was not due to a decrease in their allotted budget for the University General Assembly, which amounted to P600,000.
“Pinagsama namin ‘yung general assembly at KTS para isang malaking event na lang kasi para sa mga student naman ‘yun parehas. Tapos para may combined effort din ang mga student council at mga student organization pagdating sa pag-o-organize n’ong event,” Gayo said.
Gayo added that the USC plans to work in partnership with other organizations under CSO this AY.
Event proper
With the theme, Timeless, the University General Assembly and KTS started at 2:30 in the afternoon with an opening remark from the CSO Vice President Louvebell Komatsu.
Various performances from the Performing Arts Group as well as different bands and dance troupes from all colleges and organizations performed at the event while raffle promos were conducted by the USC and CSO in between presentations.
Special guests for the event were Up Dharma Down, DJ Jade Hartman, MC Ace, and X-factor Remix.
