Triumph in Taipei: DLSU-D Chorale’s Golden Sweep

With immense pride and honor, the De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) Chorale, under the leadership of their conductor, Mr. John Angelo Diamos, has achieved remarkable success at the Taipei International Choral Competition (TICC) 2024. The group returned in triumph with three coveted gold awards and a distinguished Special Jury Prize, a reflection of the group’s devotion to their craft. Their performance, rich with emotion and artistry, lingered in the hearts of all who witnessed it, leaving an indelible mark on the stage.

The DLSU-D Chorale’s outstanding performance secured the gold award for third place in both the Musica Sacra and Ethnic/Traditional categories. On top of that, their impressive skills in harmonizing and vocal coordination earned them another gold award in the Mixed Choir division. These accolades highlight their versatility and mastery across different musical genres.

The Special Jury Prize

Among the most sought-after prizes featured in the competition is the Special Jury Prize, a prestigious accolade recognizing outstanding artistry and creativity in choral performances. This prize honors choirs that, while not winning principal awards, display remarkable innovation that showcases unique interpretations of music. By highlighting diverse styles and compositions, the prize fosters a culture of artistic excellence and experimentation within the choral community.

Notably, in addition to their gold awards, the Chorale held its pride up as the recipient of the Special Jury Prize for the Best Performance of an A Cappella Work. Their rendition of “Laudate Dominum” by Levente Gyöngyösi captivated the jury and audience alike, demonstrating their technical prowess and emotive expression. This special recognition further secures the DLSU-D Chorale’s status as a world-class ensemble.

Their multiple awards significantly elevate the choir’s profile both in and out of the University, opening doors to future performances and collaborations. These recognitions not only honor their top-notch abilities but also motivate all participants to strive for excellence, fostering a competitive yet inspiring environment. Ultimately, the award enhances the TICC’s mission of promoting choral music and cultural exchange on an international scale, enriching the experience for both participants and audiences.

Behind the spotlight

Organized by the Taipei Philharmonic Foundation, the TICC stands as a reputable event in the global choral music scene. Its inaugural competition, held in August 2024, has already made a significant mark, attracting choirs from around the world to exhibit their talents.

It is designed to provide an enriching experience with a variety of competitive categories, such as Mixed Choir and Ethnic/Traditional music. This diversity allows for a wide range of performances, highlighting different musical traditions and styles. The competition is judged by an elite panel of international experts, ensuring that the assessment standards are distinguished by their quality. Besides the competitive aspect, participants may engage in workshops and master classes to further enhance their skills and knowledge in choral music. These educational activities are complemented by the cultural exchange opportunities the competition promotes, allowing participants to interact with and learn from their peers from different countries.

The competition serves as a platform for choirs to display their talents while immersing themselves in Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage, known for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant traditions. As the competition grows, it is expected to become a key event in the global choral calendar, attracting talented ensembles and promoting collaboration and excellence in performances.

      Hello Raul,

The choir is named after the university itself if you’ve noticed.

This name, “The De La Salle University -Dasmariñas Chorale”, has been posted in different media and spoken through various happenings before, during, and after the competition.

      Including but not limited to:
-The Printed Competition Program which all Choirs (Local and International) have. This is for each and every member mind you.
-Announced by the host everytime we walk out on stage to represent the country and the UNIVERSITY.
-Announced by the host and flashed digitally during the awarding ceremony numerous times in front of ALL CHOIRS.
-EMBROIDERED on our uniforms that was worn numerous times during our stay in Taiwan.
-Posted in different media from other broadcasting/news outlets and pages of nationally regarded composers and groups in the choral scene.

IT IS THIS NAME THAT IS WRITTEN AND SPOKEN.

If it is a lack of gratitude you are pointing out, we have thanked the institution numerous times in our concert programs and social media pages. The group will do so again in its upcoming homecoming concert. ( I invite you to attend if you have time; kindly wait for the announcement)

This group has fought for a long time to gain approval to use its name outside the country; on the international stage. Please rest assured that a lack of a “banner” did not diminish how we represented the university to the best of our musical and moral capabilities.

I hope this answer satisfies your question.
