ALPAS dominates 19th Gawad Tala, 5 other telecine films bag awards

Out of six telecine films presented at the 19th Gawad Tala, ALPAS by KAHEL Films dominated the awarding ceremony by bagging a total of eight awards on December 15 at the Tanghalang Julian Felipe.

The eight awards received by KAHEL Films include Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Art Design/Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Actor (John Edrick Alcontado), Best Director (Rodson Suarez), and Best Picture.

ALPAS, according to Suarez, is a film about a middle child of an unstable family named Matt who suffers an episode every time a mishap occurs in his life. With each episode he encounters, the protagonist slowly uncovers the truth behind his family’s past along as he is forced to deal with his worsening condition.

 

In their preparation for this year’s Gawad Tala, Suarez answered, “Actually mahirap yong Gawad Tala 2017 kasi kamikami ng mga ka-batchmates [ko] ‘yong maga-award tapos kami rin yong magpo-program e.”

Another telecine film was Ibon na si Bonnie by Pre-productions, which won the Best Screenplay, Best Actress for Jazcha Balot, and Best Supporting Actress for Elaine Diaz. The film portrays a woman named Bonnie, who develops eccentricities and a particularly odd habit and finds herself in need of a change prompted by the return of her pretentious mother Victoria.

Nakaka-overwhelm [and] at the same time, humbling ‘yong experience. Thankful ako,” expressed Balot who portrayed the lead character Bonnie in the film Ibon na si Bonnie.

 

On the other hand, PITO by Anito Productions bagged the Best Theme Song and Best Story, and Ama Director John Zedrick Simeon received the Best Supporting Actor award.

The telecine film HANAP by 2D Productions, directed by Darwin Dolot, was also featured.

Meanwhile, other awards include the Best Radio Drama program Sindak sa Dilim and episode Mga Turo ni Titser by Sophia Dinsay from the Pre-Productions; Best Documentary BAKLAD by Jose Miguel Caibal from the Mithing Katig Productions; Best Feature/Human Feature Galajuan Gentrip, directed by Rommel Encinares; and Best Film Trailer and Best Exhibit UMBRA by U.N.A. Productions.
