COEd offers early childhood and sign language courses
The College of Education (COEd) offered certificate courses in Teaching Early Childhood Learners and Sign Language basic and advance levels for students from and outside the University on April 23 to June 11.
Creative programs in-charge Relyn Antenor-Cruz said they opened these certificate courses to maintain the recognition of COEd as Center of Excellence (COE) in Teacher Education given by the Commision on Higher Education (CHED).
“Being Center of Excellence, ibig sabihin mayroon din expectations. De La Salle University [- Dasmariñas] as Center of Excellence is expected to take the lead in uplifting the quality education in their respective disciplines. Sa atin, hindi lang tayo nag–o-offer ng basic. As much as possible, we offer more to the community,” Antenor-Cruz added.
According to Antenor-Cruz, COEd started offering the Teaching Early Childhood Learners and Sign Language certificate courses in 2012 and 2014, respectively, due to the increase of schools that cater to hearing-impaired students in Dasmariñas City.
She furthered that the Sign Language course would enhance the competency of their Special Education (SPED) major graduates.
“What edge do you [SPED majors] have over those who graduated SPED [from other universities]? … In our University we offer more [opportunities], added edge sa inyo [SPED majors] ‘yun,” Antenor-Cruz said.
COEd also plans to open certificate courses in Math, Filipino, and Social Studies next summer as per the results of the survey they conducted among COEd students this second semester academic year 2015-2016.
