DLSU-D gathers 1,521 students in record-breaking human formation attempt of recycling logo
De La Salle University – Dasmariñas, with the management of University Advancement Office (UAO), challenged the current world record for the largest human recycling logo formation after gathering hundreds of students to participate in the record-breaking attempt at the Ugnayang La Salle (ULS) last March 5. The Guinness World Records is yet to confirm if the attempt was successful.
The University exceeded the set number of participants with more than 1,500 persons in attendance as the current Guinness World Record in Turkey gathered only 751 participants. According to UAO Director Marco Polo, the participants who joined the formation reached 1,521 registered attendees, which was counted through the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). DLSU-D Senior High School students had the largest population in attendance, with numerous attendees from the different colleges of DLSU-D also participating.
Despite having more participants than the Turkish record holder, Polo clarified that DLSU-D cannot yet officially claim the title as there will be a lead time for the approval from the Guinness World Record.
He added that the UAO decided to initiate the formation as an opening event for the Lasallian Festival (LSF).
As to why the UAO decided to launch the formation at the ULS instead of at the Grandstand where the first Human Lasallian Star Formation was formed in 2012, Polo explained that the UAO initially decided to hold the formation outdoors but was met with logistical problems due to time restrictions.
“We only have two weeks to prepare for this record-attempt, unlike previous human formation (Human Lasallian Star Formation) that took months to prepare,” he clarified. Furthermore, Polo explained that the formation was done to create awareness for the environment. “Let’s do something significant for the opening of the LSF and to highlight the importance of the environment and to call on the community to be stewards of the environment,” he said.
As of press time, the title will take six to eight weeks to claim as per the UAO Director.
