DLSU-D JFINEX holds first Students’ Summit

The De La Salle University – Dasmariñas Junior Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (DLSU-D JFINEX) hosted its first Students’ Summit with the theme “Investment Insights and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Integration” at the Ugnayang La Salle yesterday, December 9.

The summit, endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office IV-A through Regional Memorandum Order No. 213 Series 2015, aims to inform students about the current trends in investing and the effects of the 2015 ASEAN Integration in the Philippine labor market.

“We were inspired to give the University and the other schools a chance to … hear the people from the industry talk about relatable and trending topics in finance,” JFINEX President Jernica Torres said.

The topics for the Students’ Summit include Advancing through CISI Finance Education, ASEAN Integration, Bloomberg Education, Bloomberg on Technical Analysis, Common Mistakes in Investing, Finance Education Career Opportunities, Investing in the Stock Market Today, Risk Diversification and Why It Matters, and The Need to Succeed.

The speakers for the said event include Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Philippine Society President April Lee-Tan and Randell Tiongson of Registered Financial Planner (RFP) Philippines who talked about the importance of saving and diversifying investments, while Union Bank First Vice President Robert Ramos explained the common mistakes in investing.

Moreover, Gregg Tan and Krisa Qui of Bloomberg Singapore discussed the uses of Bloomberg Technical Analysis software in studying trading charts, while Anton Mauricio and Mike Conroy of Finance Educators Association talked about the trainings and career education offered by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Philippines.

The JFINEX Student’s Summit also featured Dennis Layug of East West Educational Specialists Co. Inc, and motivational speaker and author Jayson Lo.

The speakers shared their knowledge and experiences in their respective fields to almost 2,000 Business Administration and Accountancy students from different universities and colleges in Region IV-A and National Capital Region.

The event also served as an alternative class for the DLSU-D College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) students. • With a report from Katherine Anne Aboy
