DLSU-D on distance learning mode, implements measures amid COVID-19
The University will be on “distance learning mode” and precautionary measures will be reinforced in response to class suspensions and social distancing amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, Vice Chancellor for Academics and Research Dr. Marco Saez shared on March 11.
During the period, “a fully online learning mode shall be practiced,” Saez said, where management of classes will utilize the Schoolbook, DLSU-D’s learning management system (LMS).
Earlier, the Provincial Governor Jonvic Remulla announced the suspension of classes from March 10 to 14, followed by an extension until April 14.
VCAR assures members of the academe that “we (the University) still have more than enough days to cover our lessons for the second semester,” after the postponement of Lasallian Festival (LSF) 2020 and Research Week (after being previously merged with LSF 2020), and the substitution of holding classes over Prelim Examination week, which sums up additional three weeks as onsite duration.
While, previous measures released by the VCAR, Adjustment Measures and Learning Continues plan, are still applied and are addressed specifically for online classes and precautionary measures to be heightened once classes resume.
Furthermore, indicators of success, such as grades of students, portfolio of outputs, and documentation of engagement for users of online applications other than Schoolbook, will be submitted by professors to their respective department chair at the end of the midterm period.
“All these, together with a copy of the streamlined syllabus shall be submitted a week after the midterm exams,” Saez mentions in addition to the papers to be passed.
Student and faculty activities and services management
Aside from the reduction of the required number of stickers for the Student Engagement Program (SEP), more measures are implemented for student and faculty services upon the resumption of classes.
The VCAR mentioned that concerns, assistance, and inquiries can be referred to respective deans, assistant vice chancellors, or the high school principal as administrators of academics and research.
“All administrators of the Academics and Research division are constantly finding ways to make sure that learning remains productive and responsive to the needs of the situations,” Saez reassured.
