DLSU-D succumbs to UP-D in PSL sweep-set match

The DLSU-D Volleybelles suffered their third loss in the preliminary round of the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Collegiate Grand Slam 2018 as the UP Lady Fighting Maroons defeated them in a sweep-set match, 21-25,12-25, 22-25, yesterday, December 8 at the Filoil Fyling V Centre, San Juan, Metro Manila.

Crafting a 3-point lead, the Lady Fighting Maroons started the first set with aid from Nicole Ann Magsarile and Maristela Genn Layug through their spikes and service ace, 0-3.

Cutting the Lady Maroons’ slate down to four, Patriots bounced back with Jubilee Anne Del Rosario and Basilyn Delfin’s unbreakable block and Eunice Gercie Castillo’s two service aces, 14-18, but Lady Maroon Layug’s spike finished the set at 21-24.

DLSU-D knelt to UP-D in the second canto as the Lady Maroons whipped them with a 7 consecutive points set-ender consisting of Lorielyn Bernardo, Justine Dorog, and Andreanna Lagman’s mighty spikes and blocks, 12-25.

Developing a thrilling third set, the DLSU-D Patriots paved the way to tie the score sets as Delfin, Del Rosario, and Rain Cyrille Ramos swamped the Lady Maroons with four furious spikes and a service ace, 22-22, but UP-D terminated the Patriots’ hope to notch a set with Dorog, Caryl Sandoval, and Michaela Osorio’s powerful spikes.

‘Yong weakness namin ngayon ‘yong depensa. Dapat namin i-improve ‘yong defense pattern namin. Magt-training pa kami harder kasi these past few days, busy kami sa school kasi finals [week],” Lady Patriot team captain Eunice Castillo shared.

Continuing to keep the Animo pride alive, the Lady Patriots will battle University of Sto. Tomas Golden Tigresses on December 13, Thursday, at Muntinlupa Sports Center, Metro Manila.
