JPAMA Surge’s top three quiz bowl winners receive scholarship
The top three winners among the 58 participating accounting students of the Junior Philippine Association of Management Accountants (JPAMA)’s Certified Management Accountant (CMA) quiz bowl were granted scholarship discounts at the event held on December 4 at the Ugnayang La Salle (ULS) and College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) Graduate School of Business (GSB) rooms.
The winners of the CMA quiz bowl are first placer Melljohn Pesigan from Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, who received a full scholarship discount, followed by second placer Rowela Bacaycay from Far Eastern University (FEU) – Cavite, and third placer Paul Benedicto from Systems Plus College Foundation who bagged 50 percent and 30 percent scholarship discounts, respectively.
With the theme JPAMA Surge of the Future Accounting Professionals, JPAMA Vice President for Internal Communications Rhonnel Raule said they aimed to conduct a conference where CMA board examinations and business analytics discussions may be introduced together.
“And nowadays, almost majority of the accounting students are not aware of the CMA which, in the future, is expected to ‘boom’ (sic),” she expressed.
The JPAMA Surge is comprised of two main events: a seminar and a quiz bowl that discussed the importance of CMA and other globally-recognized certifications and challenged the participants with a set of questions similar to the actual CMA examination.
JPAMA started their conference with Architecture and Construction Management (ACM) Landholdings, Inc. assistant finance manager Allan Jay Evangelista’s lecture, wherein tips on taking CMA board examinations were given.
With the topic Business Intelligence: Pursuing the Big Shift, professional lecturer at the University’s CBAA and Graduate School of Business Meynard Bitas discussed the difference between business intelligence, business analytics, and big data, as well as the three types of business analytics.
Meanwhile, Certified Fraud Examiner Aurelio Gueco warned the students on how dangerous fraud is in the business industry by presenting videos of real life frauds.
As for the last speaker, Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) knowledge resources executive and sustainability officer Enrique Florencio tackled social and environmental accounting and demonstrating green thinking.
The Universities which participated in the conference and quiz bowl were Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, University of Batangas, Maryhill College, Calamba Doctor’s College, DLSU-D, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Manila, San Beda College-Alabang, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna, National College of Business and Arts, St. Anne College of the Pacific, Sacred Heart College, St. Dominic College of Asia, and FEU-Cavite.
