Lasallian Festival, other activities postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak
Following recent developments on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the country, the Lasallian Festival (LSF) 2020 celebration scheduled on March 19 to 21 is postponed, as stated in a notice dated March 10 from Vice Chancellor for Academics and Research (VCAR) Dr. Marco Saez.
Likewise, all off-campus activities and grievances procedures are cancelled until further notice, as stated in a notice from the Office of the VCAR (OVCAR) released today. While, all in-house activities, including recollection and sojourn, must be reviewed and must comply with precautionary measures once classes resume.
This came to light when the Department of Health confirmed four new cases on the evening of March 9, followed by nine additional cases on March 10, one among which is from Cavite.
With a theme #LSFwegotU: Coming together for the Lasallian Mission, the Office of the VCAR (OVCAR) assured that the Lasallian mission continues as the LSF 2020 committee is currently planning to make the festival “more engaging and meaningful to the community members”, with the possibility of the celebration to be held in May.
The festivities of LSF 2020 are originally scheduled for one week, March 16 to 21. OVCAR released a memo to the DLSU-D community on March 2, stating the updated three-day celebration from March 19 to 21, supposedly.
Student activities reduced
In response to the outbreak early in February, the Student Development and Activities Office (SDAO) has also decided to reduce the number of activities for each student organization this academic year 2019-2020 second semester from eight to four events, which are to be held on-campus with a maximum of 45 participants.
While, events that require more number of participants, such as general assembly, fund raising, sportsfest, and other related activities, are advised to be held in the latter part of this semester.
Due to the number of COVID-19 cases rising in the past few days, however, the Office of Student Services dean, SDAO director, Student Activities Office coordinator, and Performing Arts Group coordinator are convening to weigh in advantages and disadvantages of holding such events, as per SDAO Director Ma. Luisa Ongcol.
Similarly, as the deadline of submission of nominees for Luntiang Parangal 2020 draws near this March 17, the SDAO has confirmed the extension of requirement submission. As of press time, however, there is yet a definite date for the deadline of submission.
