Luzon brother aspirants attend 1st ILAW for this AY at DLSU-D
With the aim to deepen the participants’ discernment on their chosen vocations, an estimated 40 brother aspirants from Residencia De La Salle, 1911 Community, and Lipa Community gathered for the first Inter-Luzon Aspirants Workshop (ILAW) for this academic year (AY) 2017-2018, a two-day event held at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) from August 26 to 27.
“We want to instill them the certain practical skills related to our three core values—faith, service, and communion. We want to expose the aspirants to let them have a deeper understanding that faith cannot be just through prayers but also through art,” Vocations Ministry Office National Director Br. Angelo “Gelo” Paragas FSC said.
In this AY’s first ILAW, the participants had the opportunity to integrate the teachings they learned from each talk and workshop through hands-on activities.
“I call this ILAW a bold step because normally, when there’s ILAW, there’s only a typical workshop-type, classroom-type, heavy talk-type. But now, we explored doing something more than that,” Br. Paragas explained.
The two-day event was comprised of various activities that challenged the aspirants physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
On the first day, speaker Br. Edmundo “Dodo” Fernandez FSC spearheaded the aspirants’ discernment through their senses with a walking and drawing activity accompanied with blindfolds. Afterwards, faith sharing was conducted on the second workshop with Cavite artist Emmanuel Garibay.
While on the second day of the workshop, the brothers’ bond were tested through various spiritual and physical activities and after, shared together the lessons that they learned on the last day of ILAW.
For the aspirants
Residencia De La Salle is a brother’s community from DLSU-D together with De La Salle Health Science Institute (DLSHSI). The 1911 Community serves De La Salle University-Manila, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, and De La Salle Araneta; whereas the Lipa Community serves the De La Salle Lipa.
“As far as concerned ‘yong Residencia, mayroon kaming activities for the DLSU-D and the DLSHSI communities. Siguro magaganap ‘yon, I think, on the Lasallian Festival (LSF) kasi we had an activity last LSF called the KM Zero,” Residencia De La Salle Auxillary Aspirants Coordinator Jullian Morabe said.
They also encourage people, particularly the youth, to be ‘more daring’ and ‘curious’ to try and explore the life as a brother.
ILAW is an annual event among the 1911, Residencia, and Lipa communities supervised by the Vocations Ministry Office.
