MCO, ERMaC prepare for first Green Choice Awards next year

As part of DLSU-D’s Pearl Anniversary Celebration, the Marketing Communications Office (MCO) and Environmental Resource Management Center (ERMaC) spearheaded the press conference on August 15 at the Julian Felipe Hall (JFH) for the first Green Choice Awards to be held on April 2018. The event will focus on recognizing media entities upholding environment sustainability.

MCO Director Rosanni Sarile said the Green Choice Awards aims to recognize environmental awareness efforts of TV, radio,  print companies, programs, and personalities.

“The intention here is to invite more companies, institutions and networks to work on their economic sustainability programs . . . also to give awareness to people that it’s very important how you sustain and conserve our ecosystem,” she added.

Sarile furthered that DLSU-D is one of the first universities in the country to spearhead an event recognizing environmental efforts since the University is renowned to be one of the greenest and most environment-friendly universities in the Philippines.

Moreover, ERMaC Director Marlon Pareja explained that the Green Choice Awards is focused on awarding media entities as they see media as a “powerful tool” to influence the people.

“We hope to change their (media companies) perspective that they should also promote programs that tackle these [environmental] issues,” Pareja added.

Among the initially planned 25-category awards are Best Special Program on Environment, Best Program Host, and Best Network inculcating environmental awareness. The final list of the 25-category awards is yet to be announced.

With the cooperation of the Center for Innovative Learning Programs, DLSU-D students will be invited to take part in voting for the nomination of the awardees through Schoolbook.

Meanwhile, MCO and ERMaC have collaborated with the Lasallian Community Development Center, University Student Council, and Faculty Association for the Green Choice Awards.

As of press time, the Green Choice Awards is still on its preparation phase and was initially intended to be held during the Environment Awareness Month in November.

However, given the shorter time for preparation had the event pushed through for November, Sarile said the event will likely be held during Earth Day on April 2018.

Aside from the Green Choice Awards, Sarile announced other events lined up, such as an event recognizing outstanding Filipinos of different fields overseas called Perlas ng Silangan Awards, invitational recognition of local and international lay ministers and brothers, Lasallian Week, and other events by LCDC and the Alumni Association.
