New uniform design still in “process of acquisition”

The release of the new uniform design for the freshmen of academic year (AY) 2018-2019 is in the “process of acquisition” due to costly prices of the fabric, as per Office of Student Services (OSS) Dean Arch. Antonio Gutierrez Jr.

“Yung ginusto ng mga estudyante na uniform (for males) ay napakamahal. Halos magiging triple ‘yong cost [compared to the old uniform], which is very costly,” he explained regarding the delay, as the first samples of the male uniforms given by suppliers turned out to be thrice the price of the old uniforms.

Gutierrez furthered that the administration is looking further into finding a fabric that meets the request of the Student Handbook Committee and lowers the price. The office aims to receive the new uniforms as soon as possible in the coming week.

“We really want na makuha natin in a month—the fastest that we can. Depende sa supplier, depende sa kakayahan ng supplier,” he said

In the meantime, freshmen will be in prescribed civilian clothes until September 21, and they may show their Certificate of Registration (COR) or IDs as proof of registration.

Uniform design

For the female uniform, a green embroidered “De La Salle University-Dasmariñas” text will replace the University logo patch while a softer fabric will be used for the green slacks.

For males, a white polo barong with a green embroidered “De La Salle University-Dasmariñas” text and black pants will replace the beige Santana polo barong and chocolate brown slacks.

The new design is approved by the Student Handbook revision committee along with the administration and is stipulated in the DLSU-D Student Handbook 2018-2022 which will be posted in the DLSU-D website in the opening of classes.

“The plan is to have it (Student Handbook) on Monday. Upload it on the same day. And send it for printing this week.” Gutierrez said.

For upperclassmen

On the other hand, DLSU-D upperclassmen may still wear their old uniforms for the rest of the AY, as per Gutierrez.

“Ayaw nating gumastos [at] bumili pa [ang upperclassmen] ng bagong uniform, lalo na kung ga-graduate na sila,” he said.

Gutierrez suggests that the upperclassmen remain in their old uniforms, yet they may still purchase new uniforms as the University warehouse will no longer produce the old uniform designs.
