Patriot cagebelles secure finals slot, cagers falter against RTU

Continuing their National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) tourney, the Patriot cagers succumbed to a defeat against the Rizal Technological University (RTU) Blue Thunders, but the Lady Patriots, on the other hand, celebrated with their blowout win against the Philippine Merchant Marine School (PMMS) at the Olivarez College gym yesterday, February 4.

 

A taste of supremacy

Leaving the marines in tatters, the Patriot cagebelles put up an outstanding performance after dominating their foe, 66-34.

Overshadowing at an early mark, the Dasmariñas-based squad posted an 8-0 run. However, Ciara Castillo of the opposing team fired her artilleries at 3:05 and 19.3 seconds, 15-10.

In the second quarter, DLSU-D’s Diane Reyes received two technical fouls, which threw her out of the game. But Irene Torregosa stepped up in place of Reyes and performed smooth stealing skills.

Not until the third quarter, the cagebelles executed their full-court trap that greeted the Lady Mariners with a scoreless spell. Boosting the momentum, Torregosa shut down Castillo with her tight defense.

Trying to make a comeback, Emily Dumago of the blue squad shot coast-to-coast layups, but the green-and-white squad still managed to clinch the victory, 66-34.

This might serve as a confidence booster for DLSU-D women’s basketball as they gear up for Private Schools Athletics Association (PRISAA) – Regionals on February 6.

 

 

Inconsistency

Losing their second consecutive game, the DLSU-D basketball men’s team fell short to post a comeback against the Blue Thunders.

Despite the red-hot kickoff of Cyrus Tabi from RTU, the green-and-white cagers managed to contain their competitive form through the team’s offense and the first half concluded with the scores of 24-28.

In spite of their excellent first and second canto, the Dasmariñas-based squad lost composure in the third quarter as the gold-and-blue men commenced their full-court trap, which paved way for a 14-point cushion in the end of the quadrant, 34-48.

Shouldering the clutch offense with Luke Parcero out, Egie Boy Mojica of DLSU-D spearheaded his team in the payoff period as he scored six of a 15-8 run, 49-56. However, as the two-minute mark ticked down, the Blue Thunders gained separation and dribbled it out at 20.1 seconds, 67-56.
