Patriot spikers whitewash Iron Eagles, 3-0
Buckling up for their journey in the National Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) tourney, Patriot spikers crashed the Philippine State of College of Aeronautics Iron Eagles in their debut game after a savage yet risky 25-22, 25-7, and 25-22, tally at the PHILSCA gymnasium, January 24.
A close call
Launching the game, DLSU-D spikers easily grabbed the lead through consecutive service aces coming from Patriot Jerome Ronald Mirano, 3-0. Despite the commanding lead, Patriot spikers got a taste of their own medicine when the Iron Eagles bounced back through service aces in the latter part of the opening set, 23-21. Closing the curtain, Eddiemar Kasim secured the first canto with a quick spike and a service ace, 25-22.
Ending the second quarter with no sweat, the green-and-white men swept the Iron Eagles with successive robust spikes coming from Aidam Adam and Daniel Angelo Benitez, 25-7.
Colliding with the Iron Eagles
Tables were turned when the third canto commenced as the blue-and-yellow team fought back with strategic drop balls and indestructible blockings, 3-8. But after a time out from the green-and-white courtside, DLSU-D spikers found their composure once again after tallying a 16-deadlock. Wrecking the frozen scores, Patriot Kasim bombarded the PHILSCA’s defense with back-to-back spikes, concluding the bout, 25-22.
Preparing for the long NCRUCLAA league, head coach Al-Frazin Abdulwahab shared that they still need to improve on their serve receives as they are already exemplary with their offense.
Proceeding to their second matchup, DLSU-D spikers will clash against powerhouse team Rizal Technological University Blue Thunders on February 7 at the National College of Business and Arts gym.
