Patriot Trackster Dolloso to banner PH flag in Taipei Universiade

Stepping onto the Universiade track, Patriot jumper Felyn Dolloso will take her flight to the worldwide athletics competition in the long jump, triple jump, and 4 x 100 meter relay events to represent team Philippines on August 23 to August 27 in the 29th Summer Universiade to be held in Taipei City, Taiwan.

Continuously setting and breaking her personal records, Dolloso was selected by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines to join the Summer Universiade, formerly-known as World University Games, in Taipei.

Nalaman ko na kasama ako sa Universiade this year, last February tapos kinausap ako ng chairman noong National Open sa Ilagan na isa ako sa gusto niyang mag-laro,” she explained.

The Taipei Universiade is expected to attract more than 180 countries from around the world, including powerhouses United States, Russia, China, Japan, Great Britain, France, Korea, Germany, Canada, Italy, Australia, Brazil, Uruguay, Serbia, New Zealand and other nations from South America and Africa and Europe.

Back in 2015, seven Patriots represented the Philippine team in the table tennis, badminton, and swimming divisions of the said competition held in Gwangju, Korea while Dolloso will single-handedly banner the Patriot flag in the Taipei Universaide this year.

Before Dolloso takes her first jump in the international competition, the national team athlete has already experienced competing outside the country back when she was part of the DLSU-Manila athletics team in the 2010 and 2013 National Open in Singapore and Thailand, respectively.

As she trains for the upcoming competition, Dolloso shared that DLSU-D athletics head coach Arnold Villarube upgraded her training routines by changing her techniques.

Aside from her technical training, Dolloso is also conditioning herself before flying for Taiwan. “‘Yong sarili ko lang talagayong pine-prepare ko ro’n kasi hindi ko alam ‘yong klima do’n at saka ‘yong food,” she added.

Hoping for the best, Dolloso shared her goals and expectations for the upcoming competition. “‘Yong importante ay mabigay ko ‘yong best ko or makagawa ako ulit ng personal best (PB) at ma-break ko ‘yong PB ko. Kahit wala akong place, basta nag-PB ako,” she said.

Aside from Dolloso, former Patriot shuttler and DLSU-D alumna Gilly Chavez will come back to the Universiade stage for the second time after the 2015 Summer Universiade.
