SENTRO slate incomplete due to disqualified candidates

The Student Commission on Election (SCE) proclaimed only seven candidates under the SENTRO La Salle political party to run for the University Student Elections this academic year (AY) 2015-2016, resulting to an incomplete slate of the said political party.

According to a statement released by SENTRO on March 6, the SCE disqualified 49 SENTRO candidates due to lack of requirements, such as the certificate of good moral character issued by the Office of the Student Services, and the certificate of evaluation from the Registrar’s Office.

Meanwhile, SCE Chairperson Aaron Lopez furthered that some SENTRO candidates were disqualified because they failed to specify the positions they are running for during the filing of the certificate of candidacies (COCs).

Lopez added that they denied the request of SENTRO Secretary-General Meriel Faye Acaba to extend the deadline for the submission of the certificate of evaluation since the SCE has already given them at least five working days to submit all the required documents.

“As an impartial body that follows the election code, our decisions are bound by the code and if we are to give chance to one, we shall give chance to all. But of course, that should still be in line with the code,” Lopez said.

As of press time, the SENTRO political party is making an appeal to the SCE regarding the proclamation of candidates.
