Cavite volleybelles fall short to Batangas, diminish Laguna

Securing their ticket to the finals, the Cavite women’s volleyball team savored another mix of grief and triumph after clashing with the spikers from Batangas and Laguna in the third day of the Private Schools Athletics Association (PRISAA) – Regionals at the Arsenio H. Laurel Sports Arena, Lyceum of the Philippines University – Batangas, February 7.

 

Losing the grip

Facing last year’s champion, the Cavite women’s team surrendered in a five-set breakdown to the Batangas lady spikers in an edgy 25-22, 27-25, 13-25, 18-25, and 7-15 deficit.

The Cavite and Batangas team both showcased a head-to-head battle with their intense spikes and blocks in the first two sets, but Iumi Yongco led the Caviteñas in obtaining a hefty 25-22 and 27-25 score to claim a 2-0 advantage.

Acquiring their momentum, the Batangas-based squad showered their spikes with Krissa Madalogdog and Ronnalie Dawn Castor, who wrecked the unstable defense of the Cavite team, tying the game into two-sets apiece.

Down to the last canto, the Cavite team continued to stumble and muffle to Batangas’ storming offense, a 7-15.

 

Polishing the road

After the downfall to Batangas, the Cavite volleybelles bounced back as they trampled the Laguna volleybelles in a three straight set overthrow, 25-11, 25-17, and 25-22, securing a slot in the finals.

Seeking the opponent’s weakness in reception, team captain Cherry Nunag and Frances Bartolazo led the Cavite team to an overpowering 25-11 first canto.

The Cavite volleybelles still reigned in the second canto despite committing series of errors, putting up a 25-17 superiority.

Reviving themselves, the lady spikers of Laguna exhibited a late offense in the third span, forming a 3-0 run and holding back the Caviteños to clinch the set, 24-22. Destroying the sprouting hope, Bartolazo concluded the game with an off the block spike, 25-22.

The Cavite lady spikers will face the undefeated Batangas Lady Spikers in the finals with a twice-to-beat disadvantage at 9 AM today, February 8.
