Cavite Spikers bombard Rizal, overpower Quezon
Punching their way to another championship tourney, the Cavite men’s volleyball team trounced the Rizal and Quezon spikers in the elimination rounds of the Private Schools Athletics Association (PRISAA) – Regionals at the Arsenio H. Laurel Sports Arena, Lyceum of the Philippines University – Batangas yesterday, February 7.
Complete dominance
Returning from their upset in the first game, the Cavite team bounced back with a three-straight set dominance against the Rizal spikers, 25-16, 25-22, and 25-22.
Starting with hyped energies, team captain Aldin Bin and Eddiemar Kasim unleashed heavy spikes and series of service aces in the first canto, 25-16.
Preventing the Cavite to have a blow off, Marlon Agujar and Adreen Lio Pascual led the Rizal team with their service aces, displaying tight 22-22 scores in the second canto.
However, Bin and Aidam Adam poured their spikes and Yve Lorenz Piñon’s error gave the Caviteños three straight points to finish off the second set, 25-22.
Ending on a high note, Cavite’s Aidam Adam and Mirano relinquished their big bombs and excellent drops to conclude the match, 25-22.
Restoring the golden opportunity
Clinching the opportunity to step in the finals scene once again, the Cavite spikers thrashed the Quezon spikers in a nail-biting win, 28-26, 24-26, 25-16, and 25-22.
After the first set, the teams squared off with six deadlocks before the green-and-white squad prevailed in the canto through Daniel Angelo Benitez’s quick spike and Laguna team’s Billymar Delos Santos’s missed hit, 28-26.
Coming back for a set win, the Quezon-based squad emerged an 11-4 get-go in the early moments of the set. Tying the game into one-set apiece, Cavite’s Jerome Mirano pulled off an error, 24-26.
Dropping monstrous spikes, Adam and Kasim spearheaded the troop on a score, throwing cross court blows over the walls and breaking their opponent’s defense in the third canto, 25-16.
Advancing to the next stage, the Caviteños surmounted Quezon’s attempt to avenge the meet with team captain Bin and Mirano, who led the last-minute show, 25-22.
The Cavite spikers will clash against the undefeated Batangas in the finals with a twice-to-beat disadvantage at 11 AM today, February 8.
