Cavite volleybelles finish second as Batangas defends their throne, 1-3

The Cavite lady spikers dropped the chance to represent Region 4-A in the nationals’ stage after succumbing to a 20-25, 16-25, 25-23, and 15-25 defeat in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) – Regionals women’s volleyball finals game 2 held on March 11 at the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation covered court.

Despite nullifying Batangas’ twice-to-beat edge, the volleybelles dropped the gold for the second time. Lady Patriot Mara Galicia received the best spiker award while libero-turned-spiker Frances Bartolazo took the honor for best receiver.

 

 

Team Cavite shocked the once-unscathed Batangeñas through a straight-set victory, 27-25, 25-22, and 25-20, during their game one finals encounter to force a decider match.

The clash between the Caviteñas and Batangeñas was evident during the first moments of the do-or-die game as the scores went neck-and-neck up until 12-all, but the Batangeñas came back with refined strategies to defend their throne as they showered powerful kills led by Most Valuable Player Kimberly Jamilla to steal the first set, 20-25.

 

 

Batangas kept their pace during the second set as they took advantage of Cavite’s reception errors and moved closer to polish their regionals’ crown, 16-25.

Keeping the ball alive, Cavite boosted their hopes to reclaim the title as they survived a hard-fought third set as best spiker Mara Galicia closed the frame with a strong hit, 25-23.

With their hunger to finally end the match, Batangas retaliated and dominated the fourth set after building their composure from an 11-1 run at the start and buried the green-and-white squad up to a 15-25 upset to take the championship title.

The last victorious PRISAA – Regionals championship of the lady spikers was in 2016 in Batangas against the same opponents.
