DLSDAA holds Basketball with the Stars event

The DLSU-D alumni squad composed of former Patriot cagers and head coaches succumbed to a 69-72 defeat against the Celebrity Xfactor in the Basketball with the Stars event held at De La Salle Health Sciences Institute Animo Center yesterday, December 6.

According to De La Salle-Dasmariñas Alumni Association (DLSDAA) Vice President Gerardo Sergio III, DLSDAA arranged the basketball tune-up game for the benefit of the scholarship and endowment fund of the association.

The game started with both teams displaying a solid defense as the basket opened after three minutes through Xfactor Young JV’s quick three-pointer, 0-3.

Down by six points, Patriot Rico Rivera and Mark Igtiben made two consecutive layups to draw the scores near before the set closed at 12-14.

The intensity skyrocketed when the alumni and the celebrities exchanged jumpers in the opening of second set. Advancing against the alumni, celebrity Luis Alandy and Jon Hall showed their skills through their boards and blocks inside the paint that kept their lead by five in the end of the halftime, 34-29.

Entertaining the crowd further, DLSU-D alumnus and former DLSU-D Chorale member Alfritz Blanche serenaded the Animo Center with his mesmerizing voice during the half time break.

Commencing the game in the third quarter, the celebrity team showered DLSU-D with powerful layups and jump shots, but the alumni kept the digits close and ended the period with a 48-50 record.

Stepping up for the alumni team, basketball men and women head coaches Rodel Mercado and Tito Reyes attempted to switch the momentum as they fired long bombs, but the Xfactor team’s defense prevailed in the dying seconds of the game to clinch a 69-72 success.

Pleased by the crowd and their competitor, celebrity star player Young JV said, “Masaya, magaling ‘yung mga kalaban namin, and very competitive. In the future, sabi ko nga, if you have concerts game, talaga ako and I’m excited to share what I have.”

Meanwhile, other celebrities such as Marco Alcaraz, JC de Vera, Matt Evans, Marco Gumabao, Japoy Lizardo, Jose Sarasola, Eric “Eruption” Tai, and comedian Negi also participated in the league.
