Patriots clinch double victory in PRISAA ‘15 volleyball tourney
The Patriots kicked off the 2015 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA)-Provincials stint with three-set victories against the Saint Francis of Assisi College – Bacoor (SFAC-B) in the men and women’s volleyball tournament held at the Animo Center, De La Salle Health Sciences Institute (DLSHSI) yesterday, November 28.
Relentless dominance
Despite several errors due to miscommunication early in the first set, Eddiemar Kasim fired up the green-and-white squad with superb kills, together with Bryan Castro’s crosscourt spikes, 25-15.
Bouncing back from their unsteady offense, the SFAC-B spikers strenghthen their confidence by throwing pacesetting kills that pulled a short comeback during the third set. However, the Patriot spikers immediately concluded the game with 25-15, 25-21, and 25-21 tallies.
After the DLSU-D spikers brought their first victory to a 3-0 slate against the SFAC spikers, the Lady Patriots also succeeded to a 25-13, 25-10, 25-22 triumph against the SFAC volleybelles.
Despite pushing an early lead in the first two sets, the DLSU-D Lady Patriots struggled in the middle of the third canto through SFAC’s shaky offense. Being the team’s spark, Cherry Nunag stopped the opponent’s rage by unleashing a kill, followed by two consecutive errors by SFAC before DLSU-D’s Myell Pasco handed the victory with three consecutive aces, 25-22.
Proving their supremacy, Lady Patriot Captain Iumi Yongco contributed 10 points, along with Eunice Castillo and Myka Tiangco, who combined for 13 points to dominate their game-opener. • With reports from John Zedrick Simeon and Djoanna Nikole Javier
